Closer to home than you think
More than a billion people speak Chinese, across China, Taiwan, Singapore and a good deal further. Thailand has the largest Chinese community of any country outside China, and Chinese families have been part of Thai life for around four hundred years. You are learning a language that is already spoken all around you, which means you can try it out the moment you walk out of the door.
IGCSE Chinese
Chinese comes up at IGCSE in three versions, First Language, Second Language and Foreign Language, and each one asks for something different. We hold the materials for all three, so once we know which paper you are sitting we can help with your coursework and homework as well as the exam.
For Chinese-speaking families
A good number of our students are native Chinese speakers whose families moved to Thailand. You speak comfortably at home, but reading and writing have slipped behind because the school day runs in English or Thai. Those lessons look quite different from a beginner course. We start from what you can already do and work on characters, reading and written accuracy, until the written language catches up with the spoken one.
If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his own language, that goes to his heart.
Chinese in the world
Mandarin is the most widely spoken form of Chinese and, as a language in itself, has more speakers than any other language. Every Chinese dialect shares one writing system, and around three thousand characters will get you reading a newspaper. That sounds like a lot until you meet the first hundred, which is usually where it clicks. Recognising a character in the wild for the first time is a very good feeling.
